George

It’s summer and the lizards are sun bathing while the snakes slither out of the way. Me and my old friend George are on our motorbike driving to summer hill. Summer hill is a trek on George Mountain. George, my friend, is a croc wrestler so if we run into any crocs he can wrestle it for us. I met George at croc camp. I was his stunt double. I had to jump into the croc infested water and he would jump in and save me. Now for me I am an exterminator so I will be good with snakes.
So back to the story. We hit the brakes and skidded into the car park. We parked our bikes and got ready to start hiking. We had a look at the map.
“We are here at the car park and the beach is a two day hike”.
We started to climb up the steep hills. They were sandy with rocks and grasses dotted all over the hills. The higher we got the steeper the hills became. We came to a cliff. We found the climbing rope. We had to put on bite proof gloves and boots incase there were snakes and scorpions in the crevices.
I started to climb up the cliff. About half way up I was stung by a scorpion but the bite proof gloves saved me.
Finally I got to the top. George jumped into the harness and started to climb up the cliff. When he got to the top , we looked around. There were two trails that both led to the hut. One triail went through the bush and jungle and the other was more sand and cliffs. We sat down and had some to eat and drink. We decided to take the bush track. It was 2 pm and we had one hour to get to the hut .
We got up and set off. It was about half past 2 when we came to a creek.
It was the end of the wet season so the creek had turned into a swamp. We looked through our bags and found a machete each. We cut down some long bamboo and tied them together to make a bridge. George went first. He made it over. I started to cross but ...
Splash ... Crash ... Smash ... The croc had tried to attack me.
The bridge broke and I went flailing into the water. As I swam to shore George jumped in and wrestled the croc. We both came out of the water panting. We put on some new clothes, I thanked George and we set off again still feeling exhausted.
When we got to the hut we made a plan. We had two hours until it got dark. I went to catch two fish and George set up the hut. I went down to the pond and caught two big tiger fish. When I got back George had set up the bunks, got the firewood and a log to sit on.The fire was going and the billy was cracking over it. We poured some coffee into some cups and skewered the fish and put it over the fire. We sat and talked for a while, then went to bed knowing we had big challenge ahead of us.
I got up early and got the fire going and caught two catfish. We had breakfast and off again.
When we got to the river we put on our helmets and wetsuits. We got in the kayaks and paddled away.
We paddled through some slow brown water.
Just before we came to a corner the water got faster and faster. We turned the corner. There were.rapids for as far as the eye could see.
We swerved and dived off mini and water falls. For six hours we were in the rapids. Finally we came to some flat water but the noise was even louder. Then it hit me. There was a waterfall!
I froze with fear. George saw I wasn’t moving. He dived into the water and paddled my kayak to shore.
I thanked George and we set off down Summer hill creek.
We got to the hut and did the same thing. II caught two BIG trout .
We had dinner and went to sleep. At 3 o’clock in the morning George woke me up. The door was open and a pig had got in.
George jumped off the bunk bed and did a belly flop on the pig. He grabbed the pig by the back legs and hauled it outside. He came back inside.
We got dressed. With the pig on the fire and smoke sailing into the air we got ready to start the day. We ate the pig and we set off.
Soon we came to a sugarcane field. About half way through the sugarcane George started to scream. He had been bitten by a king brown snake.
I called the emergency helicopter. In 10 minutes it arrived and took as to a hospital.
I didn’t see George for two weeks.
He came back limping with a peg leg. He had been scarred for life but said he couldn’t wait for the next adventure!
