Skiing 2015

Swish Swish ... I was coming down the boneyard in my ski lesson. We were practicing parallel ski turns . Crash! I had smashed into a lump of snow and landed on my face. I got up and carried on down the track. All the others had passed me now and where waiting at the bottom. Donna, the lady teaching us, said that we were all ready to go up the top if we wanted but she suggested that we should all practice and then do the giant first.

As we got higher it got hotter. The giant was hot enough as far as I was concerned but we knew that it would get hotter and sunnier the higher we got. So we did the giant and then went back down to the cafe and got some sun block on.

Up the chairlift we went. We had to get off the movenpick chairlift and get on another one to get to the top .

The view was amazing!! You could even see Ohakune. Blair said that we should go the hard way and ... vroom ... off he went before we could even protest. So we shrugged our shoulders at each other and started to go down.

So there we were on the side of one of the hardest tracks. Smash, crash and bash. James, Lauren and Sarah had crashed. It was just Johnny, Blair and me. We got to the bottom and waited. About twelve crashes later the others had got down and we got on the chairlift to come down again. We ended up going down ... four times.

I am so proud of myself because my goal was to go down the giant. But I went one better and went up the top.

On the way home everyone went to mcd's and I got a crispy chicken burger and a large combo. My goal for next year is to go from the top to the bottom without crashing.

Footrot flats cooch

Cooch
Cooch is a nature lover. He loves all living things.
He is a farmer and Wal’s neighbour. Cooch has black hair and a smile and He always wears a black singlet, shorts and gummies. He tries to stop Wal from cutting down trees and he has a girl dog named Jess.
He is a beauty bloke; ask any possum, deer, rabbit, magpie or weta. He is the only joker I know who’d give his hanky to a slug with a sniffle. He keeps goats and black berry. He has a cabbage tree growing up through his verandah floor and the roots of a piriri tree have pushed his house crooked. You have to climb up the floors and in some places and in other places you have to jog down the slopes.
Mind you he is not a vegetarian. He does kill to eat. His eel and puff ball stew is an acquired taste. He is a very good fisherman and the only guy I know that can catch flounder with his bare feet. He owns some deer and a big 14 point stag that the Murphys want to steal.
He also plays rugby for the Raupo old boys.
Wal and Cooch are really good friends ... Mind you they do fight ... but mostly about not cutting down trees, golf and where to put the flounder net.

footrot flats about me

Hi. My name is Dylan. I am 11 years old. I like rugby, cricket, fishing and hunting. I am a good at hunting. I do lots of possum hunting and have a slug gun and a 4 point stag head on my wall. I like to help dad on the farm and when he does the shearing, help by rousing ... but not all the time.
I like it when dad does the fencing because, when I am not nailing in the staples, I can go hunting for fresh water crayfish and slide down the the hill with some cardboard.
My first production was ‘Apiti’s Got talent’ and my favourite is ‘Badjelly the Witch’. I was Binkle Bonk, the tree gnome. It was kinda like been a Smurf. I had to help Huntah and Zahn by giving them a place to stay.
I have done 3 productions.
For this production I am Cooch. I try to stop Wal from cutting down a tree and tell everyone about Wal leaving. It’s like being Wal’s right hand man. Cooch is a bit of greeny and he likes to plant trees. My favrourite character in Footrot Flats is dog.
In the future I would like to do ‘The wizard of Oz’.

Deer hunting

We were at Jock's place at about 4:30 pm and me, Tyler, James, dad and Jock had just left the hut to go and shoot a deer. It was a long walk through all the bush. After about half an hour we came across some recent deer signs on a rocky slip.
When came on to the tussock we could see lots and lots of deer prints and poo.We rounded a corner and there they where. Two stags right on the bush line.
After about 3 minutes of watching them, the first shot was fired and then a second. Then 3 hinds and a faun came out of the bush and ran across to the other side. We stopped for a minute and caught our breath. Then we started the very difficult way through the bush to get the deer.
We had to bush wack through the bushy gully that was riddled with stinging nettle.
Finally we found the deer on the hill. We gutted it and pulled it down to the finish line.
We cut off its head and started to walk up the hill. That took us about 1 hour and 30 minutes.it was extra hard for me because the head that i was carrying had a muggril antler. when we had finale got back to the ,mum had made some bugers. in the moring we toke the moter bikes and got the traler we piked up the deer carkis.when we got back to the howes we cut out the iner filits and sent the rest to the bucher.

Mushrooms

As the sun rises the mushrooms rocket up. Hundreds of colors grow where the wood mouse stores supplies for winter. Mushrooms shoot up like little space ships.

Fishing on the dam

I went fishing at Bourkies dam.  When we got there, it was about 2.30pm.  We fished in the blistering hot sun for 3 hours with no luck at all.  Finally, we found the fish feeding on the surface in some part of the deep dark cool water.  I cast my line and whamo I had a fish just like that!  I battled with it for about 20 minutes, finally I got it on land.  It was about 1 1/2 pounds, I was thrilled.  When we got back to the car, we had a hot chocolate.  When I was doing some practice casting, I figured out that some perch were following the lure.  After about 150 casts, James finally caught one.  We were going to put it back but it had got hooked in the gills, so we had to keep it.  When we got back, we pan-fried it, it tasted so good.  Dad said that perch were the best fish for fish and chips.
Sizzle, sizzle, went the fillets of fish in the frying pan.  The golden crispy skin made my mouth water. The white fillets glowed in the golden colour of the oil - yum!

It was the trail bike ride at the Apiti domain and my mum is a nurse. It was 9 am on a Sunday and 400 motorbike riders were pouring through the gates. Me and my friend Derek were riding our push bikes. It was fun.

HECTORS DOLPHINS

We got on the boat and motored off . We stopped at a main reserve .The gaye gave us some pellets that we feed to the blue cod.
After that we went and saw a salmon farm. There were some seal too.
The next thig we saw were some Hectors Dolphins. They were so cool. There were even two babies or calves. The lady said that when the babies are inside their mum they are folded up. It was amazing.

Sting rays

We paddled over to the other side of the bay. We were looking for sting rays on the Stand Up Paddle Boards.
When we got there we saw a massive eagle ray. It was about 2 metres long. It could swim so fast . I looked behind me by Huntah. I thought I could see one. Iwent over to it .
When I got to it I thought it was a rock but ... when Huntah touched it with his paddle it shot off. It was so cool.

Mussels at Mistletoe Bay

Mussels at Mistletoe Bay
We sprinted to the jetty expecting lots of sea life. We were right!
Crabs, fish, mussels and squid. The whole lot.
As we jumped into the water we could see fish every where. Big ones ... little ones ... black ones and brown ones. It was amazing how many fish species there were.
Then we saw them ... mussels the size of a weka. They were big, green, doing nothing ... just sitting clinging to the wall. We swam down to them .We pulled and pulled but they wouldn't come off. So we twisted them and wisted them and they finally came off .They were absolutely massiv te.

My goal was to use good description by choosing interesting words.

Swimming in Picton

Splash.
Me, Tyler, Hannah, Johnny and Huntah jumped into the water. We swam for what felt like forever .
We finally got to the pontoon to jump off.
When we dived to the bottom we could see some star fish. They were massive. I dived down and got one. I threw it up onto the pontoon .We all thought it looked so cool. We put it back in but it landed upside down .Hannah dived down and put it right side up again.
We dived down to get other one when Johnny said the anchor was moving. We looked over to it.
It was a sting ray. We scrambled back to shore. It was so scary!

2015 Triathlon Writing

Bang! Thunder and ... Sprint!
The cap gun exploded!
As we came onto the road, the excitement wore off. We sprinted away down the road. I was so relieved when I finally got to Tyler. I tagged him and he shot off like a  missile.
But I knew the hard part was yet to come; 78 metres of hard out swimming. Tyler came off the road in 3rd place.
He tagged me but the Kimbolton team was right behind us. I sprinted to the pool and hopped in. I swam and swam right to the right end.
Tyler and I sprinted to the finish line. We came 3rd!
